KHYBER: Two policemen and a civilian were martyred after terrorists attacked a police checkpost in Charwazagai area of Khyber district with weapons, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police said.
District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Abbas said terrorists attacked a police checkpost on the Pak-Afghan highway near Landi Kotal Bazar, injuring police personnel, including Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Alamzeb, and injuring one policeman and a civilian, police. he added.
The terrorists fled the scene after the attack.
According to the police, the civilians martyred and injured in the attack were bystanders. The policemen and civilians were initially taken to Landi Kotal Hospital for immediate medical attention but were later shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar due to their critical condition.
The police station that the terrorists attacked was set up on the Pak-Afghan highway at a distance of three kilometers from the Landi Kotal bazaar.
According to the DPO, a high alert has been declared in the entire district following the incident.
The attack on the police personnel comes at a time when Pakistan, especially its provinces of KP and Balochistan, has been experiencing an increase in terrorist activities in recent months.
