DIAMER: At least 20 people were killed after a passenger bus overturned on a narrow mountain road and plunged into a valley, police told.
According to the police, the incident took place in the Ashashokhal area on the Karakoram Highway in Diamer on Friday morning.
The bus is going from Rawalpindi to Gilgit. Meanwhile, police said there were at least 38 passengers on board.
The rescue team was dispatched to the ground after the accident was reported. The injured and the dead were taken to the hospital in Chilas.
The director of the health department said three women were among the dead.
The rescue operation is over
Deputy Commissioner Diamer Fayyaz Ahmed told that at least five injured passengers are in critical condition and two have been shifted to Gilgit.
Diamer DC said it was in contact with the victim’s family.
The bus was overloaded or had an accident while turning,” he said.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif expressed his grief and condolences to those who lost their lives in the bus accident and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The Prime Minister also ordered the concerned authorities to provide all possible medical assistance to the injured.
Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan expressed grief over the incident and ordered the administration and rescuers to provide immediate medical care to the injured.
A GB government spokesperson said a state of emergency has been declared at Chilas Hospital.
