Karachi: The first flight carrying 205 students from Kyrgyzstan landed at Jinnah International Airport on Thursday morning. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah received the students, who were greeted by a large crowd of parents and relatives.
The provincial government organized a special flight to bring the students home after their stay in Kyrgyzstan. Addressing the media at the Karachi airport, Chief Minister Shah said that among the returnees were 55 girls and 150 boys.
“205 students have returned home today. The remaining 180 will be brought back soon,” said Shah. He said the remaining six students were injured but in good condition.
Shah broke down the numbers and gave details of the students’ origins: 99 from Karachi, 22 from Hyderabad, 13 from Haipurpur, 15 from Naushehro Feroze, 12 from Sukkur and Nawabsha, three from Badin, Dadu, Mirpurkhas and Jacobabad, three from Tando Adam, two from Jamshoro and Kashmore respectively from Kandhkot, Panoakil and Tharparkar.
“After the incident involving our students in Kyrgyzstan, we immediately contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and made the necessary flight arrangements for their return,” Shah said.
He said that the Sindh government has been working with the parents and the Pakistani Embassy in Kyrgyzstan since the beginning.
Students thanked Chief Minister Shah for quick action and support. “We thank Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah for raising his voice and helping us return home,” said one of the students.
