Peshawar: At least 24 people were killed and 17 others injured in various rain-related incidents over the past three days in different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said on Thursday, warning that more rains are likely to hit the country. in the next few days in the province.
PDMA, district administrations and rescue teams are working together for rescue and relief activities in the affected areas.
The monsoon season has caused heavy downpours since July 29 in various areas of the province, the PDMA of the province said on Thursday.
The Disaster Management Authority said 73 houses were completely destroyed while 77 others were partially damaged due to rains in Kohat, Peshawar, DI Khan, Hazara and Malakand divisions.
In another alert issued today, PDMA KP warned that a new season of monsoon rains will begin in most districts of the province from today to August 6, with the new weather system bringing heavy showers along with thunder and lightning in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan.
The disaster agency also warned commuters, saying the heavy rains may trigger landslides in hilly areas that may threaten the flow of traffic in accident-prone areas.
The authority also directed the provincial administration to remain alert to deal with any unusual incident due to dusty and gusty winds, thunderstorms and lightning.
People were advised to stay away from power poles, dilapidated structures, buildings and signboards and billboards.
The government body has also provided its helpline 1700 for people to report any natural calamity saying that the emergency operation center of the body is fully functional.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) yesterday predicted the probability of torrential monsoon rains across the country from August 1 to 6 with occasional gaps.
Areas experiencing rain-wind/thunderstorm (scattered heavy with isolated very heavy rainfall) are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad. , Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Orakzai, Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan from evening/night from 1st to 6th August with occasional breaks.
Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar will remain partly clear.
