Suspected militants have killed at least 11 members of Iran’s security forces and killed 16 people in an attack on Iran’s Revolutionary Guard headquarters, state media reported Thursday.
Clashes between the Jaish al-Adl group and security forces took place overnight in Chabahar and Rask, state television reported.
Deputy Interior Minister Majid Mirahmadi told state television that “terrorists failed to capture Guard headquarters in Chabahar and Rask.”
State television said 10 other security personnel were wounded in the fighting in the poor area.
The area bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan has seen frequent clashes between Iranian security forces and militants and drug traffickers.
Iran is a major transit route for drugs smuggled from Afghanistan to the West and elsewhere.
In December, a militant group attacked a police station in Rask, killing 11 security officers.
Pakistan condemned the terrorist attack
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Mudassir condemned two brutal terrorist attacks in Iran. He said Pakistan was working with Iran in the war against terrorism.
“Pakistan strongly condemns 2 heinous terrorist attacks on police and security posts in Rask and Chabahar. We stand in full solidarity with our Iranian neighbors in fighting terrorism and protecting their interests. “Terrorism must be prevented,” he said.
