RAWALPINDI: The 7th Muharram-ul-Haram procession took off from Nishtar Street, Sadiqabad on Sunday after Maghrib prayer, culminated peacefully early Monday morning at Imambargh Qadeemi while 2,700 policemen were deployed to ensure flawless security.
The best possible arrangements were made for the procession.
More than 2,700 security personnel and 199 supervisors were deployed to ensure security.
Walk-through gates have been installed at the entry points of the procession, the CPO said. Participants were allowed to join the procession after the body inspection. Syed Khalid Hamdani said policemen were also deployed on rooftops to ensure the safety of the procession.
The police were using all available resources to ensure robust security arrangements during Muharram, the CPO added.
According to CTP spokesperson, CTP has made a traffic plan for the 7th Muharram procession.
199 employees, including four DSPs, 46 inspectors, traffic commissioners and traffic assistants under the supervision of a police inspector, fulfilled their duties to ensure the flow of traffic during the parade.
The main parade route was completely closed. It passed through Transformer Chowk, Kuri Road, Chah Sultan, Glass Factory Chowk, Zafarul Haq Road, Lepras Hospital, Murree Road, Committee Chowk and Iqbal Road and reached Naya Mohallah where other small processions joined it.
Traffic diversion points were closed with barriers. Motorists were provided with alternative routes during diversions.
Parking of any type of vehicle was prohibited on the funeral procession routes.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Taimoor Khan said that for the convenience of citizens, information about alternative routes has also been shared on the official social media pages and radio stations (88.6) of the traffic police.
