Islamabad: A delegation of M/s Fruit Juice Board called on the Federal Minister for Industry and Production.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Waseem Ajmal Chaudary, Secretary, Ministry of Industry and Production and representatives of leading companies such as Nestle, Shezan, TetraPak, PepsiCo, Haleeb Pangan and Popular Group.
A group of industry leaders gave a comprehensive briefing to ministers, highlighting concerns over rising tariff rates, including the Federal Excise Duty (FED) and the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
The group said there has been a significant 40 percent drop in juice sales due to the recent tax hike. recent tax hikes not only damage this sector, but also adversely affect the rural economy, affecting fruit producers and allied sectors related to the juice industry, resulting in a reduction in overall tax revenue for the government.
The delegation of federal ministers said that the government is committed to facilitating exports and is ready to support the local industry in overcoming challenges and taking advantage of opportunities. He asked the board to come up with a comprehensive proposal aimed at increasing exports and supply to address the current industry challenges.
The minister reiterated his support to the industry and said he will discuss the problem with relevant stakeholders to find a solution.
