Some cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as sister cities Islamabad and Rawalpindi, experienced tremors on Thursday evening as an earthquake rocked the region.
Reports indicate that the earthquake was felt in various districts of KP, including Peshawar, Chitral, Dir, Swat and Malakand. Apart from this, tremors were also reported in Charsadda, Mansehra, Khyber, Buner and Mardan.
In addition, residents of Mohmand, Upper Dir and Lower Dir also felt tremors, adding to the widespread impact of the earthquake across the province.
The Met Department’s National Seismic Monitoring Center in Islamabad recorded an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale with its epicenter at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border at a depth of 86 kilometers.
While there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, authorities are advising residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions in the wake of the earthquake.The occurrence of earthquakes in Pakistan, especially in areas prone to seismic activity such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, underscores the importance of disaster preparedness and response measures to mitigate potential risks and ensure public safety.
