Gilgit: 65 people have lost their lives due to various traffic accidents during the tourism season in Gilgit-Baltistan. In these accidents, most of the reasons include vehicles going out of control and falling into a ditch, hitting a mountain. Government initiatives regarding prevention of traffic accidents and awareness campaigns are negligible.
As the tourism season begins in Gilgit-Baltistan, there has been a record increase in traffic accidents. According to the data received from the Rescue 1122 and emergency services, a total of 270 traffic accidents have been recorded here in the last 6 months. 30 people were died and 45 injured in Diamar district, 2 people were died and 38 were injured in Hunza, 2 people were died and 25 were injured in Astor district, 14 people were injured in Nagar district, 3 people were died and 38 people were injured in Ghazir district. A total of 65 people were killed and 311 people were injured. Accidents and figures of Ganche district are not including in above rate. In the tourism season, where a large number of tourists visit these beautiful valleys, more and more accidents are happening. The causes of traffic accidents include road infrastructure, negligence during driving, lack of familiarity with the geography of the area and others.
It is necessary to determine the causes of these accidents and solve them and avoid them by strictly implementing the rules and regulations so that this area can be considered safe among tourists from all over the world and the tourism sector can get development here.
