ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has approved the nomination papers of Asif Ali Zardari and Mahmood Khan Achakzai for the presidential election, according to leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
“No objections have been raised to the nomination papers of Zardari,” said PPP’s Farooq H Naek while speaking to the media in Islamabad.
While PTI’s Amir Dogar, accompanied by Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Achakzai and Ali Muhammad Khan, also announced that the electoral body approved the nomination papers of Sunni Council Ittehad (SIC) candidate for the office of the head of state.
Meanwhile, the ECP banned the media from reporting on the process of checking the nomination papers filed for the presidential election scheduled for March 9.
According to the schedule issued by the election body, the scrutiny of nomination papers is to culminate today, after which the ECP will publish the list of proposed candidates.
Next comes the voting phase, which will take place on March 9 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in the NA and all provincial assemblies.
Under the second plan, the Chief Election Commissioner will serve as the election officer, while chairpersons appointed by the ECP will preside over the presidential election, where members of the National Assembly, the Senate and all four provincial assemblies will vote for election. Head of State.
The Senate and NA vote on a one-member, one-vote basis, but the four provincial assemblies follow a different formula.
Being the smallest legislature, only the Balochistan Assembly has the option of one member and one vote, as it essentially sets the standard for vote distribution in the other three provincial assemblies – whose votes are calculated by dividing by the total number of votes. the strength of the Balochistan Assembly (which has 65 numbers).
Voting for the presidential election will be by secret ballot, that is, each member will vote by marking the ballots that will have the names of all the candidates in alphabetical order. The vote will then be cast into the ballot box placed in front of the chairman.
After the end of the voting, the presiding officer, in the presence of these candidates or their authorized representatives, opens and empties the ballot boxes and examines the ballots.
