ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday decided to give up their salaries in office citing economic problems facing the country. “Due to prevailing economic problems, President Zardari has decided not to draw his presidential salary. He made this decision to promote prudent financial management in the country,” said a statement released by the presidential secretariat. The president considered it essential not to burden the state treasury and preferred to waive the salary, the statement added. In a similar move, newly sworn-in interior minister Mohsin Naqvi also decided against drawing salary during his service. In an interview with X, Naqvi said he was committed to serving the nation in challenging times “in every possible way”. Interior and Narcotics Control Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Tuesday that he will forego his salary during his tenure as minister. He made the announcement on the X social media app and said that he is committed to support and serve the nation in every possible way during this challenging time. Earlier, the minister met the legal community in Lahore at a simple gathering organized in his honor at a local hotel. The meeting was attended by former Chief Justice Bar Ahsan Bhawan, Federal Law Minister Senator Azam Nazir Tarar and representatives of Pakistan and Punjab Council. Advocate General Punjab and officials of various Bar Associations also participated in this event.
