ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Friday criticized a “handful of miscreants” protesting outside the headquarters of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in the United States.
Addressing the media in Islamabad, the Information Minister said the country was not made for the agenda Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was pursuing.
Hitting out at PTI, Tarar said, “Their past behavior was also anti-nationalist. They are demanding IMF to give Pakistan a grant after their leader is released.”
The minister claimed that PTI will tell the nation that the US has hatched a conspiracy to topple its government in 2022, but they are holding protests in the US.
“The anti-national party involved in the May 9 incidents is working against the interests of Pakistan,” he alleged.
While visiting the IMF mission in Pakistan, the minister said that the negotiations with the delegation are moving in a positive direction and he hopes for good results.
He said that the Prime Minister wants to solve the national problems as soon as possible and therefore he has given a comprehensive program of economic reforms.
The prime minister is also considering increasing the tax net, reducing government spending and restructuring the Federal Revenue Service, he said.
On the other hand, the visiting IMF team expressed its displeasure at the Treasury Department’s verdict that it had met all structural standards, quantitative and indicative targets even before the Fund’s staff had examined and completed the review.
