There is a great possibility of doubling bilateral trade between the two countries through air, rail and maritime integration, which will prove to be a catalyst in regional and global trade, he said while addressing the business community in Islamabad.
The ambassador said that Pakistan and Iran are geostrategically very important countries located at the crossroads of the Middle East, South Asia and Central Asia. Therefore, the land and sea integration of the two countries is of great importance in the world of geo-economics, he said in a press release.
The Iranian envoy said that to further improve the transit trade between Pakistan and Iran, 12 border trade markets have been opened, of which 6 border markets have been completed and others are underway, which would usher in a new era of economic integration in both countries.
He said that both the China Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the BRI mega projects are extremely important for Pakistan and Iran as they can stabilize economic relations between the two countries.
The Iranian envoy said that the two mega-projects are not only in the interest of both countries, and the most important thing is bilateral cooperation that can bring prosperity to the region.
He said that in the same way, the North, South and Corridor and East and West are also very important in regional and global trade, which increases the possibility of connecting the global supply chain of the two countries.
He said that currently the world is economically connected through various economic corridors, therefore these corridors are important for the economy of both the countries.
The ambassador said that the transport and logistics sector is very important for both countries, which is important in terms of the cost of doing business that both sides have to work on.
Dr. Reza Amiri Moghadam said that the current volume of bilateral trade between the two countries is $2.5 billion, which has been steadily increasing since last year, in which there was a potential of $5 billion.
The Iranian ambassador said that at present, Pakistan has a great business potential in Iran in the fields of agriculture and industry and halal products, especially meat, which Iran was already importing from various countries.
He said that tourism, agriculture and trade are extremely important in Pakistan and Iran, especially in religious tourism there is great potential in both countries and the government in Iran is providing enough facilities in this regard.
The Iranian ambassador said that Pakistan and Iran have huge opportunities for cooperation in the knowledge economy and there is great potential in both countries, especially in science and technology.
He said that despite international sanctions, Iran has made great progress in the field of science and technology in which full cooperation with Pakistan can be increased. To increase mutual cooperation between the business communities of Pakistan and Iran, both sides should participate in industrial exhibitions such as the Trade and Industry Exhibition to be held in Tehran in the coming April 2024, he said.
The business community from Pakistan, especially the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce, should participate in the exhibition and increase mutual cooperation with the business community of Iran, he added.
The plenipotentiary said about 120 businessmen have completed their registration for the trade and industry exhibition in Tehran, which is expected to increase in the coming days.
