Islamabad: A 600 megawatt (MW) mega solar power project will be installed in Muzaffargarh district to increase the share of clean energy in the national grid.
The project will be constructed on build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis for 25 years, sources told private news agency here.
National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) has acquired over 2553 acres of land for the project in Tehsil Chow Sarwar Shahid of Muzaffargarh district.
In September 2022, the government approved a fast-track plan to develop large utility-scale solar projects through private sector investment.
Solar power projects will help reduce dependence on fossil fuel-based power plants, according to the government.
The project is part of the government’s push to generate 10,000 MW of solar power to reduce its carbon footprint, reduce currency impact and lower overall electricity rates.
It is important to mention here that NTDC is in the process of acquiring land for two other solar projects in Laiya District (1200 MW) and Jhang District (600 MW).
The addition of 2,400 MW of solar power to the system through the construction of these projects will help meet energy demand and increase the share of solar power in the thermally dominated energy mix.
