SHANGHAI: A man from India was recently admitted to Shanghai Renij Hospital and discharged in mid-April after doctors found his rare disease was in remission, the hospital said on Friday.
The 30-year-old Indian woman, who prefers the nickname Nick, moved to Shanghai late last year. After contracting the flu a few months ago, he developed several health problems: a viral infection, high fever, nausea and vomiting, pneumonia in both lungs, heart failure, and indications of an exploding tumor.
Medical treatment at another hospital moved to the vein, and at the end of March he sought help from the Rheumatology Department of Renji Hospital, which is affiliated with Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
By combining several keywords in her medical history, including post-influenza, severe inflammatory reaction, indigestion, gastrointestinal symptoms, and heart failure, the medical team thought she was suffering from a new disease: multisystem inflammatory syndrome. This disease was first reported in 2021 in children suffering from COVID-19.
After liver analysis and discussion of Nick’s condition compared to new disease reports, the medical team treated him with cytokine-directed therapy and organ function monitoring and support.
The woman’s health improved significantly after four days, and all her physical parameters gradually improved after a few more days.
Shanghai has the largest expatriate community in the country and attracts a large number of inbound tourists. The city’s efforts to improve medical services for foreigners have accelerated in recent years.
It has been identified that 13 hospitals with exceptional innovation and technical capacity, as well as experience in treating international patients, will participate in the program. Renji Hospital is one of them.
