Islamabad: The federal government approached the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) demanding an increase in electricity tariff by $6.51 to fix the base tariff for the financial year 2024-25.
According to the publication, the government wants to increase the purchase price of electricity per unit from the current $20.60 to $27.11.
The development comes as the regulator last week approved an increase of Rs 2.83 in electricity tariff for March 20204 due to the monthly fuel price adjustment.
According to Nepra’s notice, the said amendment applies to all categories of consumers except electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS), residential customers and K-electricity customers of 2.8372.kW.
In the current increase sought by government power ministry officials, the base tariff for the fiscal year 2024-25 may go up to $36.28 per unit from the existing base tariff of $24.82 per unit at Rs 29.78 per unit. In the case of 2022-23, the distribution margin and previous year adjustments are included.
They also said that if the loss of 11 percent of distribution companies (Discos), surcharges, taxes and fees are added, the final peak hour consumption rate for domestic consumers will increase from $42.5 to $48.51 per unit. costs.
The CPPA demand states that Discos will purchase 13.586 billion units of electricity in the next financial year at a cost of Rs 27.11 per unit and Rs 25.03 per PPP at a cost of Rs 3.5 trillion. unity.
The capacity bill is also expected to rise to $2.278 trillion for the fiscal year 2024-25, as 1,002 megawatts will be added in 2024 from three projects.
