Islamabad: The District and Majlis Court in Islamabad on Thursday reserved its verdict on a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi on the issue of un-Islamic marriage.
Justice Shahrukh Arjumand, who heard the case, reserved his verdict before leaving the courtroom for his chambers.
The judge will announce the verdict on May 29.
Court adjourned after hearing arguments from lawyers for both sides.
Khan’s lawyer Salman Akram Raja, Bushra Bibi’s lawyer Usman Gul and prosecutor Adnan Ali were present in court during the verdict.
Assistant counsel for the petitioner, Rizwan Abbasi, the lawyer for Bushra Bibi Khawar Maneka’s ex-husband, said he had to file arguments as the records were not with him.
Hakim Majlis ordered Bushra Bibi’s lawyer to present his final arguments.
The judge asked Abbasi to present his arguments to the court through a video link today.
Last month, a local court in Islamabad rejected Maneka’s no-confidence motion in an appeal against the termination of employment in the iddat case. Judge Maneka expressed disbelief at the motion and asked that the case be transferred to another court.
Judge Arjumand asked Maneka what made him believe that he sympathized with the other party. Bushra’s ex-husband responded that the entire family would be freed by the judge.
To this, Khan’s lawyer said that transferring the case to another court was punishable by contempt of court and motion of no confidence by Justice Babar Sattar.
After the argument, both Maneka and Raja had a heated argument with Judge Arjumand, who later rejected Maneka’s motion of no confidence.
