Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has backed the Pakistan cricket team ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 and urged fans to support them whether they win or lose on the field.
“Support the team and win or if you lose, assure [the fans] that we will be with you [the team],” the PCB chairman said at a press conference in London.
“The timing of the support for this group, the next month is critical in this regard.”
Commenting on the composition of the team in the tournament, the PCB chairman said that the decision on the issue rests with the captain and team management.
“There is a general strategy of not panicking and giving your best [on the field],” Naqvi said.
Also, appearing at a dinner hosted by the High Commissioner of Pakistan to the UK, Dr Muhammad Faisal, in honor of the Green Shirt, Naqvi recalled his earlier speech and said: “I want to ask something that is really necessary for the next four weeks. Come on we all support our players.”
The event was attended by London Mayor Sadiq Khan, former interim Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, Balochistan Prime Minister Sarfraz Bugti and many Pakistani communities living in England.
Commenting on the event, Khan said that he was proud that the Pakistani team had come back to London.
“Babar Azam is my favorite player, he is a role model,” he said, hoping for a good performance today.
His comments come as the national team prepares to host England in the final match of the four-match T20 series against the hosts today.
This is a must-win game for the Green Shirts to level the series as the Butter-led side are now 1-0 up after winning their second T20 by 23 runs at the Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham.
The first and third games were washed out due to rain.
This series could play an important role in the national team’s preparations for the T20 World Cup, which begins on June 1.
