London: British police said on Tuesday they were trying to find the parents of three children who were left alone after a judge lifted a ban on reporting on the case.
Official investigations were launched in 2017, 2019 and January this year after babies were left in shopping bags in freezing conditions in east London.
But now it can only be reported that all three cases are related and involve children – two girls and a boy.
DNA testing of the youngest child, Baby Elsa, by hospital staff revealed that she had a brother, Baby Harry, and a sister, Baby Roman, who were found in similar conditions in the same area.
The Metropolitan Police has been trying to trace the parents of the children “so far without success”, Detective Inspector Jamie Humm said.
“We recognize the public interest in lifting restrictions on the disclosure of this information.”
“This is important news and our job is to try to find and support the mother.”
Officers work around the clock to investigate each case. “We are continuing to investigate and will be looking at the next steps in our investigation,” Humm said.
A family court judge on Monday lifted strict restrictions on juvenile and family matters in the interest of “openness of justice” and approved the release of details of the case.
