SKARDU: Pakistani women Ammara Sharif and Dr Sana Jamil are aiming to make a name in the annals of history by becoming the first female couple from Pakistan to summit the West Muztagh La Pass at a height of 5,750 meters.
The adventure hikers undertook the 12-day trek, braving temperatures down to -20 degrees Celsius amid treacherous snowy terrain and unforgiving weather conditions.
They beat the odds to reach the summit at 10am on June 4, a milestone in Pakistan’s mountain heritage.
Located in the majestic Karakoram range, Muztagh Pass serves as the gateway to the stunning Baltoro Muztagh subrange, home to the second highest K2 Landmark in the world.
The grueling trek through the pass, known as the shortest route connecting Baltarkanda to Skardu along the upper Indus River, requires exceptional physical endurance and mental fortitude.
Sharif and Jamil’s ascension not only represents the indomitable spirit of Pakistani women, but also their contribution to the adventure sports industry.
