Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed the concerned authorities to build an international standard health center in the federal capital with hospitals, medical and nursing facilities, modern laboratories and diagnostic centers.
The Prime Minister, chairing a meeting to review issues related to the Ministry of National Health, ordered to formulate a strategy to build this religion through public-private partnerships.
Emphasizing the important responsibility of the health sector in saving lives, the Prime Minister expressed concern over the polio epidemic in the country and decided to eradicate the disease by using all means in collaboration with partners.
He also called for third-party laboratory inspections under the supervision of the Ministry of National Health Services, apart from appointing qualified health professionals in the ministry and its allied departments.
Prime Minister Shehbaz, who promised to personally monitor health issues, also ordered a third-party audit of the Pakistan Narcotics Control Board and a strategy to detect drug abuse by the agency.
He also ordered the outsourcing of human resources of all government hospitals and waste treatment plants in Islamabad.
In the briefing, the Prime Minister said that the National Blood Policy and the Blood Products Policy are about to be implemented, and work on the nursing and midwifery policy framework has reached its final stage.
Evening shifts are said to be introduced in universities to increase the number of cases. In addition, work has begun on the revised National Action Plan 2025-30 to control population growth.
Regarding the Prime Minister’s installation of $711 million worth of new medical equipment in Islamabad hospitals, he ordered a third party to purchase the equipment.
It was announced that Islamabad hospitals will be set up and modern hospital management systems and waste management plants will be operated in five public and four private hospitals in the capital.
The meeting participants were told that a strategy for insulin production in the country is being prepared.
The Prime Minister also reviewed plans to manufacture various types of vaccines in the country, build a plasma fractionation center and drug park, and provide equipment and supplies to tertiary hospitals in Quetta.
A 50-bed hospital in Musakhel, tertiary care and Teshil headquarters in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Daanish Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital in Gilgit Baltistan were announced.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Ahad Khan Chema, Prime Minister’s Coordinator Malik Mukhtar Ahmed and Rana Ehsan Afzal and relevant senior officials.
