Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday ordered the district and trial courts to await the trial of former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in 10 days.
The IHC further directed the court to decide on the couple’s pleas challenging the dismissal of the case within a month.
This development came when Justice Miangul Hassan was hearing several petitions filed by Aurangzeb Khan and Bushra.
In his petition, Khan sought the district’s declaration and the court’s order and further asked the high court to hear the appeal in the case.
Meanwhile, Bushra sought a ruling on his plea to the court to stay the proceedings.
Last week, the former first lady also asked the IHC to stay the verdict in the iddat case.
It should be noted that in January, Bushra’s ex-husband Khawar Maneka contested the couple’s marriage, calling it a sham and that the marriage took place during the iddat period (when women return to seclusion after divorce or death of husband).
A jury in February sentenced the pair to seven years in prison and fined each $500,000.
Khan and Bushra later filed several appeals against the suspended and suspended sentences.
Judge Shahrukh Arjumand on May 23 reversed the verdict on the appeal challenging the suspension.
However, repeating Maneka’s no-confidence motion, the IHC transferred the case to the Additional District court with Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majuka on the request of Judge Arujmand.
In a hearing at the IHC today, lawyer Khan Salman Akram Raja of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) sought the announcement of the verdict issued by Justice Arujmand.
Lawyers urged the IHC to hear the complaint itself or refer it to a Western Bench judge.
He said the court should set a time limit for the trial court to decide on the appeal.
Meanwhile, Maneka’s lawyer Rizwan Abbasi opposed the filing of the writ petition and argued that the court’s administrative decision cannot be challenged directly or indirectly.
