LAHORE: Former Pakistan cricket captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has slammed the team selection committee following his premature exit from the 2024 World Cup, which is currently being hosted by USA and West Indies.
In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Inzamam condemned the lack of dedicated middle-order batsmen and described it as the main factor contributing to the demise of the Pakistan team.
“This is definitely not the way the team will choose. No. 1 to No. 5 is open! It’s a shame we can’t find middle-order batsmen all over Pakistan,” said Inzamam.
The former chief selector pointed to Pakistan’s wider struggles, citing a disappointing performance in last year’s Asia Cup where they failed to reach the final.
It also highlights their impressive record leading up to the World Cup, where they won only one of six bilateral series.
“This struggle is not limited to the T20 World Cup.”
“They struggled like that in the Asia Cup… You didn’t see them perform as a unit,” he said.
The Men in Green had a disappointing T20 World Cup as they were knocked out of the tournament without reaching the Super Eight round. The Babar Azam-led team has been placed in Group A with India, USA, Canada and Ireland.
They suffered back-to-back defeats by hosts USA and arch-rivals India. However, they have won their last two group games against Canada and Ireland to complete their tournament with two wins and two losses and a total of four points.
