FAISALABAD: Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) Engr. Muhammad Najib Haroon said on Wednesday that engineers should be involved in decision-making at the highest level to create an import substitution sector and promote Made in Pakistan products.
Addressing the business and industrial community in a meeting held at the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI), he said that there is a need to improve the quality and employment of registered engineers and therefore PEC has launched a six-month internship. course. young engineer.
He urged industrialists to take advantage of the project, as PEC will pay for scholarships, and industrial placements will help engineers understand engineering challenges and provide viable and cost-effective solutions.
He said that CEC also finances innovative projects. “Last year, 250 research projects were implemented, and this year we financed 600 projects,” he said, adding that next year approximately 1,000 projects will be implemented in collaboration with universities to develop research culture.
He asked the industrialists to encourage their engineers to work in their respective institutions to renew the PEC membership.

He blamed his own generation for this problem because we did not deliver the country and put it on the path of development and prosperity.
He said there are 255,000 engineers and we can transform the industry using their skills.
He also mentioned the unprecedented technological and scientific advancements in the last two decades and said that these advancements should also be utilized.
Emphasizing the need to establish close ties between engineers and industrialists, he said that young engineers should aspire to be independent entrepreneurs instead of running around after work.
He said that the quality of engineering in Pakistan, which is a signatory of the “Washington Pact”, is recognized globally.
He said the PEC is a regulatory body but has submitted eight study reports to the federal government on various sectors including energy.
PEC says it has launched a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification course, in addition to introducing a UK-recognised arbitration and mediation course.

He said that the Senate has approved Pakistan’s engineering services, but there are many challenges in recognizing engineering as a separate service.
FCCI Senior Vice President Dr Sajjad Arshad welcomed the guests and said FCCI has 10,000 members representing more than 100 traders, industries and sectors. “There are three office staff and 28 executive members. Likewise, more than 100 standing committees represent various industries,” he said.
He said his office is making serious efforts to address this issue at the local, state and federal levels.
