Islamabad: Iran on Sunday criticized the decision of the US Congress to investigate allegations of “disruptions or irregularities” in the February 8 election.
Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, Dr Reza Amiri Moghadam, said: “We condemn the US’s controversial decision regarding Pakistan’s elections.”
The US House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly earlier this week to demand a full and independent investigation into allegations of election meddling or interference.
Resolution HR 901 was passed Tuesday by 368 votes to seven, representing 85% of the total number of members of the American parliament in the legislature.
Through the resolution, US lawmakers stressed the need for Pakistani people to participate in the country’s democratic process months after the general election was deemed “rigged” and the results “delayed” by political parties sitting in the opposition seats. legislature.
The National Assembly then issued a resolution on Friday condemning the decision of the US Congress, calling it “contrary to reality” and “interference” in its internal affairs.
The resolution was drafted by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Shaista Pervaiz Malik and was approved by a majority in the National Assembly amid strong opposition from opposition members.
Expressing his displeasure, Moghadam said the US resolution was “blatant interference in the internal affairs of an independent member of the United Nations.”
The ambassador called it a form of looting under the guise of supporting democracy.
Referring to the deadly situation in Gaza, the ambassador said that Washington used its veto power to end the ceasefire.
“The United States supports the genocide of the people of Gaza by providing lethal weapons to the Zionist regime,” the ambassador said.
