Although every year the government continues to issue various instructions to avoid the destruction and accidents of monsoon rains in the country, this year experts have predicted not only the rapid melting of glaciers due to the extreme heat across the country but also the monsoon rains.
There is also the fear of huge losses due to storms for which advance preparations by the federal and provincial governments are indispensable so that the loss of human lives can be minimized. According to the statement issued by the National Disaster Management Authority yesterday, there will be more rains in the monsoon in which the citizens have been instructed to be more careful. Plain areas will be the most affected by the said rains. If the hot weather does not break the dangerous floods in the rivers and canals in the mountainous areas may cause serious damage to the population there.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) the current monsoon system is likely to affect Sindh within 24 hours. This system may affect Kashmore, Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Umarkot, Badin, Mithi and Tharparkar. The DMA said that rains may cause local urban flooding, moderate flooding in rivers, residents of low-lying areas should be prepared to deal with the possible flood situation, residents of two or four areas should follow the instructions of the local authorities and People should download the NDMA Disaster Alert mobile app for timely alerts.
On the other hand a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change was held under the chairmanship of Senator Sherry Rehman in which the Chairman NDMA while briefing the committee said that temperature in June and July was higher than before.
The temperature is increasing every year due to global warming. According to Chairman NDMA there is severe air pressure in the Arabian Sea. There is a possibility of heavy rains in monsoon due to wind pressure. Meanwhile Monsoon spell is likely to enter Pakistan from India.
Heavy showers occurred at some places in the first week of July. The chairman further said that rains are predicted in the second and third week of July. There is a possibility of rain in all four provinces in July and August. In the second week of July and the third week of August, there is a possibility of rain in Punjab, in the second week of July and in the fourth week of July, there is a possibility of rain in Sindh, while the flow of water from Indian rivers is likely to increase.
Chairman N.D. MA said that the meteorological department’s equipment is outdated. Meteorological department website is not updated for 10-10 days whereas our website is updated on daily basis but due to lack of grants the equipment is not updated. He said Meteorological department needs huge funds to update the equipment. The tragedy is that despite three decades of a devastating earthquake and two most dangerous floods but the equipment’s could not be updated due to which the reports of floods and storms and their management could not be improved but they needs more funds.
However it should also be remembered that such institutions were given a lot of funding however our conditions are not good which needs to be thought about.
Due to the intensity of heat this year skin diseases have started to increase in different cities of the province including Peshawar city. Due to the heat and humidity the citizens sweat more, so they are suffering from itching and allergic diseases. In government and non-government hospitals a large number of patients are being brought to the hospitals who have complaints of skin diseases. According to health experts there is more sweating in extreme heat and fever, which affects the cleanliness of the skin. The skin pores become blocked which leads to infection. Citizens should take precautionary measures in this regard because the number of skin patients are continuously referring to the government and non-government hospitals. Most of the children are also affected. According to the experts, separate soap and towel should be kept for the affected people. Meanwhile as a precautionary measures are needed to prevent cholera and other stomach diseases in the rainy season which will not be forgotten.
