Jamaat-e-Islami postpones Islamabad sit-in to July 26

ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan on Thursday decided to postpone its planned dharna in Islamabad on July 26.
Amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman in a press conference in Lahore criticized the government’s failure to provide relief to the people despite substantial claims.
Highlighting the financial burden on citizens, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman pointed out that Pakistanis have contributed $42 billion through electricity bills and taxes, yet they feel neglected in return.
“If the government wants to avoid protests, it must ease the burden on the population,” he emphasized.
Earlier plans for a dharna on July 12, protesting against rising electricity and petrol prices, have now been postponed to July 26.
In addition, Jamaat-e-Islami is considering a nationwide strike to force the government to reconsider its tax policy, which Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman says unfairly burdens ordinary citizens while exempting the rich.
The ongoing crisis, compounded by skyrocketing public service costs and taxes allegedly imposed at the behest of international financial institutions, has fueled widespread discontent.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman condemned the government’s alignment with the IMF in budget decisions, arguing that such policies neglected key sectors such as education and health, where taxes on vital medical needs further strained public resources.
