Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javaid has been shifted to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad on the orders of KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapura, the CM’s spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday.
“KP CM has been in touch with Javaid’s father and husband,” Focal Person CM Gandapur told Digital Media Yar Muhammad Khan Niazi, adding that the PTI activist along with her family will stay at KP House in the federal capital.
The spokesperson’s statement comes a day after the prominent PTI activist was relieved of her months-long legal woes after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday ordered her release and prevented the police and other law enforcement agencies from arresting her.
Javaid faced arrest and detention in multiple cases related to the May 9 riots, which were launched after the arrest of former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan in a bribery case in which several military installations were destroyed.
She has been behind bars for almost a year now, embroiled in various cases, all linked to the vandalism and riots sparked by Khan’s arrest in May last year.
Before the latest case filed in Balochistan, 12 cases were registered against her, including the Zaman Park vandalism, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) house fire and the racecourse police station incident.
She was acquitted in a total of four cases, including the latest Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) case, and granted bail in the remaining eight cases.
A magistrate of the Islamabad District and Sessions Court allowed Javaid to walk free a day after she was arrested by an investigation agency team in a terrorism case linked to the May 9 riots on Saturday.
The arrest came minutes after her release from Gujranwala jail following her acquittal in a separate case on similar charges.
She was released again on Sunday after an Islamabad court acquitted her of charges in the FIA case, only to be handcuffed by the Islamabad police an hour after her release.
The PTI activist’s father then filed an IHC against her arrest, after which IHC judge Mian Gul Hassan issued Javaid’s release order and barred authorities from re-arresting the former ruling party loyalist until Thursday.
However, the court has strictly advised the PTI activist and her father to refrain from making any harsh statements during this time.
