ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court in the federal capital on Tuesday approved the bail application of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Information Minister Raoof Hasan in a terror financing case.
ATC judge Tahir Abbas Sipra approved the PTI politician’s anti-surety bail application of Rs 200,000.
Hasan was named in the case based on the statement of co-accused PTI International Media Coordinator Ahmed Waqas Janjua for his alleged role in providing financial support to terrorists.
On August 3, the court rejected Janjua’s bail plea.
Meanwhile, the PTI General Secretary has been sent to 14-day judicial custody in Adiala Jail following a court order on Saturday in the above case.
On July 22, the politician and others were taken into custody by Islamabad police and subsequently handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Hasan was not initially named in the terror FIR, but was arrested on the basis of Janju’s statement — he allegedly gave him Rs 300,000 to spread terror — on July 31.
Bukhari argued that the physical detention was unnecessary to get the money.
At today’s hearing, Hasan was represented by his lawyer Ali Bukhari and party lawyer-turned-legislator Ali Zafar, with prosecutor Raja Naveed also present in court.
Hasan’s defense attorney said at the start of the case hearing that his client was not named in the case and his name was later added to it.
