DALLAS: USA batsman Aaron Jones scored a crucial run in the opening T20 World Cup match against Canada in Dallas today.
Jones hit 10 sixes in his innings to become third in the list of most sixes in the T20 World Cup tournament, behind only former West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who holds the top two spots in the world with 11 and 10 sixes. Cup round.
South Africa’s Riley Rossow is fourth with eight sixes, while India’s Yuvraj Singh is fifth with seven sixes.
Canada posted a total of 194 runs for the loss of five wickets after batting first. Navneet Dhaliwal led the way with 61 off 44 deliveries, including six fours and three sixes. Nicholas Kirton also contributed significantly, scoring 51 off 31 deliveries which included three fours and two sixes.
In reply, USA chased down the hosts in just 17.4 overs thanks to brilliant performances from Aaron Jones and Andrew Gouse. Jones delivered a winning innings, scoring 94 off 40 balls with four boundaries and ten big sixes. Gous provided good support with 65 runs off 46 deliveries, hitting seven fours and three sixes.
