KARACHI: Renowned industrialist Zulfiqar Ahmed, who was abducted from Karachi on July 23, has contacted his family after five days of missing. His lawyer Ali Ashfaq confirmed that Zulfiqar is safe and will return home soon.
Meanwhile, the police claimed that the missing businessman had already returned home.
According to Ali Ashfaq, he reached out to Zulfiqar Ahmed’s father, Haji Riaz Ahmed, who is currently in Saudi Arabia, who also confirmed that his son would soon reach home safely. This communication provided much-needed relief to the family, who had been anxiously awaiting news since the abduction.
Karachi DIG (South) Syed Asad Raza confirmed that Ahmed had reached his home in Lahore.
A high-profile kidnapping incident occurred on July 23, when eight armed men in a double-cabin car allegedly abducted Zulfiqar Ahmed. His wife petitioned the Sindh High Court for his recovery after the police allegedly failed to comply with her request to file a case of kidnapping.
The incident, which took place on Karachi’s Mauripur Road, has left the business community and public in shock. According to the police, the case was registered on the request of Zulfiqar Ahmed, the head of the textile company, where he was last seen.
According to the FIR, Zulfiqar Ahmed was traveling to Clifton with his friend Qaiser from his textile shop when their vehicle intercepted a car without a number plate on Mauripur Road. Armed individuals forced the two men into the car.
After traveling some distance, the kidnappers released Ahmed’s friend but took Zulfiqar Ahmed with them. The prosecutor also mentioned that Ahmed’s cell phone has been continuously switched off since the incident.
In a related development, two senior factory workers of Zulfiqar Ahmed, who were also allegedly abducted a day ago, were traced. The company’s management has confirmed that it has made contact with Atif Afzal and Ameer Nawaz, two executives. Both employees are confirmed safe and are expected to return soon.
