Karachi: Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi expressed surprise at the exclusion of two batsmen from the T20I squad for the series against Ireland and England.
The Pakistan team is currently participating in a three-match series in Ireland and travels to England for four matches.
Speaking to reporters in Karachi, Afridi said he was surprised that Mohammad Wasim Jr had been retained in the team for so long and was now dropped. Aamer also said that Jamal is not part of the team.
“It’s surprising how Wasim Jr was left out after he stayed in the team,” Afridi said.
“After Abdul Razzak, we saw a good striker in Aamer Jamal, surprisingly he didn’t stop,” he said.
Afridi also said that he wants Babar Azam to step up as senior captain.
“A good captain takes important decisions in difficult times. We want Babar to be a good captain because he is a good player. All these players have been playing for a long time and now their job is to do well in the World Cup,” he said.
Incidentally, Pakistan will play their first T20I against Ireland on Friday. The remaining two matches will be played on Sunday and Tuesday before the four-match T20I series against England.
