LAHORE: Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad, who has been out of action for the past five years, has declared that he is ready to bat in the middle order.
While talking to a group of reporters in Lahore, the 32-year-old hopes to get an opportunity after his performances in domestic cricket.
“I have been playing domestic cricket consistently for the last two-and-a-half years. My performances for this country are obvious to everyone, but my name has not been called for the national team or the PSL,” he said.
“I have continued to work hard and my performance this season has been outstanding.
“My name was included in the camp based on my domestic performance, now I hope to get a chance to move on.
Shehzad said he is hopeful of getting a fair chance and hopes to be part of the squad after attending the camp ahead of the New Zealand series in December last year.
“I hope I get a fair chance because I want to contribute with my performance and experience.
“I have batted down the order and I will prefer that. As far as batting in the middle order is concerned, I am willing to do anything for Pakistan, but it is important to sit down and talk about the plan,” he added.
Meanwhile, he revealed that chief selector Wahab Riaz has assured that despite not featuring in PSL 9, his performance in the domestic T20 will be considered.
He concluded by talking about the new PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
“He has many challenges ahead of him and he has done a positive job as the caretaker chief minister of Punjab. The Speaker has talked about merit, which is a very good thing.”
