LAHORE: Pakistani cricketer Ahmed Shehzad recently courted controversy with his remarks targeting Babar Azam and the national cricket team after the T20 World Cup campaign co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies.
In the past few weeks, Shehzad has expressed his displeasure with the team’s performance and the behavior of its players.
Shehzad took to social media platform ‘X’ and criticized the team for focusing on supporting Haris Rauf instead of solving fans’ problems after their disappointing World Cup performance. He said the players should apologize to the fans instead of sharing their posts in support of Rauf.
He also expressed his displeasure by urging the players to abandon their overseas vacations and return to Pakistan.
“This player should apologize to the nation, this player should be ashamed and this player should go back to Pakistan instead of vacationing in America, England or Dubai. This record of the player should not change. The narrative and the fans should be held accountable for the poor performance of the players,” he said.
“Accountability is very important now. The same group of players has not achieved anything for our country in the last five years and has prioritized individual steps instead of the collective success of Pakistan,” he said.
The Men in Green had a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign as they were knocked out of the tournament without reaching the Super Eight round.
They lost back-to-back against hosts USA and arch-rivals India. However, they have won their last two group games against Canada and Ireland to complete their tournament with two wins and two losses and a total of four points.
