ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal on Tuesday chaired a review meeting of projects related to road and rail connectivity with Central Asian and European countries.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Planning, members of the Planning Commission and senior officials of the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Railways took part in the meeting, among others.
During the meeting, officials from the Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Communications presented their strategic plans for connectivity.
The minister emphasized the importance of creating a comprehensive plan for cooperation with Central Asian states.
“Pakistan is strategically located and can become a hub for regional connectivity based on a transparent multi-model strategy. We need to ensure efficient and reliable trade corridors to take full advantage of our location,” he said.
Ahsan Iqbal ordered the relevant ministries to finalize their plans and address the missing links in connection with the Central Asian states.
He emphasized that all proposals should be feasible and thoroughly prepared, adding: “We must ensure that our proposals are feasible and ready for implementation. The meeting ended with a consensus on the accelerated completion of connectivity plans to strengthen regional cooperation and economic integration with Central Asia.
