Peshawar: Awami National Party (ANP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Aimal Wali Khan was duly elected as the central president of the party on Sunday.
The party’s general council meeting was held at the ANP Bacha Khan headquarters in Peshawar under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Iftikhar Hussain.
According to sources, other candidates did not apply for the position of president. ANP leader Haider Khan Hoti suggested the name of the animal.
It should be noted that Aimal’s father, Asfandyar Wali Khan, was the president of the party. However, the senior politician has been away from politics for some time and did not contest the February 8 general election.
On the other hand, ANP central spokesperson Zahid Khan announced his resignation on Saturday. He said that he will not participate in the elections within the ANP party.
Sources privy to the matter claim that Hoti and Zahid are not contesting intra-party elections.
They also alleged that Zahid had political differences with the ANP leadership and was away from party affairs, but Aimal went to his house to convince him. But the visit was fruitless.
