ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) won second place in “Plastic Waste Management” competition, organized by Unilever Pakistan and SEED in framework “Research Program in Pakistan. Mahnoor Shirin and Fatiya Tariq, both Bachelor of Chemistry students at AIOU, won second place among 26 teams representing 11 universities across the country. AIOU Department of Chemistry organized a reception to thank these talented students. Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Irshad Ahmed Arshad, chaired the event while Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, Dr. Uzma Younis, chaired the event. Chair of the Department of Biology Dr. Hina Fatima, Chair of the Department of Nutritional Sciences and Environmental Design Dr. Hajra Ahmed, Kamal Nasir and other faculty members also attended the event.
During the event, Dr. Irshad Ahmed Arshad emphasized that Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) places great emphasis on research and innovation. He added that the students of AIOU are very talented and the science department is well equipped with modern laboratories, which are even used by students of other universities in Islamabad. Dr. Irshad emphasized that AIOU is the only university in Pakistan that offers merit scholarships to students as well as tuition reimbursement to students who score 80% marks, which is a great honor.
Dr. Uzma Younis mentioned that the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. Irshad Ahmad Arshad supports all our initiatives. She also said that AIOU Vice-Chancellor Professor Nasir Mahmood provides grants to our student projects, enabling them to participate in competitions. Dr. Uzma Younis congratulated the winning students and emphasized that their talent is the pride of the school.
