Asia’s richest man, Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, bought English for 57 million pounds, or about $79 million, Debjit Chakraborty told Bloomberg News.
Ambani owns a $100 billion conglomerate through Reliance Industries, which has interests in industries ranging from oil to telecommunications.
This conglomerate has been involved in the hospitality industry, with a stake in the company that runs Oberoi Hotels, a five-star hotel chain, according to Bloomberg.
With a net worth of $71.5 billion, Ambani is the richest person in Asia and the 13th richest in the world. He’s known for funding his celebrity lifestyle, from building his family a 27-story mansion to spending billions to throw his daughter an extravagant wedding that included a performance by Beyoncé.
The property features a five-star hotel, three restaurants and lounges, a spa and gym, 13 tennis courts and a 27-hole championship golf course.
According to Bloomberg, Ambani’s company Reliance plans to develop sports and recreational facilities at the heritage site.
Forbes reported in 2001 that the Kings spent $30 million to restore the property.
International Group co-owner and director Chester King told Insider that he and his brothers decided to sell Stoke Park in 2017, but when the Reliance family approached them about buying it, the property was officially put on the market. End of 2020.
The brothers are “protectors” of Stoke Park and want to make sure the new owner is someone who will respect its heritage and history, saying that although he has not met Ambani in person, Raja says he has found him at Reliance.
“The best thing is Reliance compared to returning the property to the same condition as we imagined,” said King. “They are committed to rebuilding and making it better than it is today. As a family, we are happy to have found like-minded owners.”
