Peshawar: Suspected militants blew up a girls’ school in Wana Dubkot area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s South Waziristan district on Friday.
No one was injured in the incident, but the school building was badly damaged.
Last week, a girls’ school was blown up by unknown assailants in Shewa Tehsil area.
Residents have expressed concern, saying it is the only private girls’ school in the area and has been under threat from terrorist elements for some time. Despite previous warnings to law enforcement, no action was taken to protect the campus.
A police officer described the incident and described how armed and masked attackers forced their way into the house after overpowering the night watchman, who was seriously injured during the struggle.
Eventually, they planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) inside the building, causing a massive explosion. The security guard was freed by the perpetrator before fleeing.
This purpose-built school has significance as the only private educational center for girls in the entire district of North Waziristan.
Its reputation for quality education makes it a favorite among parents.
On May 2, unknown assailants set fire to a school in North Waziristan, police said. About 10-15 people vandalized the school building by scaling the walls, destroying the invigilators and burning test papers solved with flammable materials.
These papers were collected from 23 examination centers under the Bannu Board of Education.
