Apple has revealed that iOS 17.4 will include updates to the battery health and an upgraded battery cycle lifespan for the iPhone 15 series. At 500 full charge cycles, Apple initially claimed that the iPhone 15 could hold up to 80% of its initial capacity. It can now hold 80 percent of its initial capacity after 1000 full charging sessions.
Apple claims that as part of its testing, the battery was charged and discharged 1,000 times in scenarios that were representative of typical use cases. The extended battery life can be attributed to the company’s continuous upgrades to power management technologies and battery components throughout the years.
Only the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max are affected by the change in battery lifespan. Only 80% of the capacity can be retained by earlier iPhone models after 500 full cycles of charging, however the company says it is also looking into these models.
