Sunni Ittehad Council-backed PTI leader Asad Qaiser has suggested the Supreme Court form a judicial commission to investigate the cipher case to bring forth the “truth”.
Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly on Monday, the former speaker also demanded the lifting of the ban on PTI by the media regulatory authority, withdrawal of cases against party members, and investigation into the alleged electoral rigging.
Qaisar stressed that the PTI had a clear stance on the cipher case, adding that former prime minister Imran Khan was sentenced on the basis of the cipher.
“A Grade 19 officer would call our ambassador and give him dictation. This is questionable,” he asserted, adding that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his party, the PML-N, would say that the cipher did not exist.
“But despite that, court hearings would last over 14 hours in a single day. Judges were forced to hand down sentences at gunpoint,” he alleged. He then suggested the formation of a judicial commission to uncover the truth.
Qaiser also emphasized the party’s commitment to upholding constitutional rights and seeking justice within the confines of the law. He asserted that if the PTI did not get its rights, no one would be able to govern. He vowed to continue the struggle for justice through constitutional means and under the rule of law.
Meanwhile, during his speech, the state new channel halted its broadcast.
Qaiser also criticized the opponents, questioning the legitimacy of their electoral victories and calling for a thorough investigation into alleged rigging. He also condemned the recent raid on the house of presidential hopeful Mehmood Khan Achakzai.
Furthermore, he claimed that Imran Khan never compromised on principles, adding that the former prime minister would stay in the country and face the circumstances. “The PTI founder will not be part of any agreement,” he declared, adding that the time times of “scare and rule” have passed.
He also alleged that the party’s mandate had been robbed in Karachi and demanded an inquiry into the alleged electoral rigging by a commission comprising Supreme Court judges. “We only want the supremacy of the Constitution in Pakistan. I was pressured to part ways with Imran Khan and create my own party, but I said previously also that I will die but not quit the party,” he declared.
Pointing at the treasury benches, the former speaker these people had come to the House through Form 47 and that even their families did not consider them MNAs. He then demanded PEMRA lift the ban on the PTI, and that the cases against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi and Shah Mehmood Qureshi be withdrawn as a condition to holding talks.
