The bus was on its way to Burkina Faso when the accident happened around 5:00 p.m. local time, it said, adding that Malians and nationals from other areas of the West African sub-region were among the victims.

According to UN data, in 2023, Africa is responsible for about one-quarter of the world’s traffic accidents, even though the continent has barely 2% of the world’s vehicle fleet.
