Peshawar: At least two people were killed and 22 others injured in a car bomb blast in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s DI Khan district on Thursday.
The incident took place near Hathala police station in the district. Soon after the incident, a large contingent of security forces cordoned off the area and launched an initial investigation.
The injured were taken to the nearby CMH hospital.
Police officials said the car bomb targeted vehicles traveling between Tank and DI Khan. There was no information on which force the vehicle belonged to.
The bomb disposal unit has also launched an investigation to determine the quantity and type of explosives used in the attack.
In a major attack in December last year, at least 23 soldiers were killed when militants rammed a truck loaded with explosives into a security force post in DI Khan district.
The army’s media wing said the terrorists rammed into the explosives-laden vehicle after their attempts to enter were “effectively foiled”.
The car bomb was followed by another suicide attack that led to the collapse of the building and many casualties. Six terrorists were killed in the attack, ISPR said.
Security forces were using the building as a base camp, two security officials told Reuters, adding that they feared ammunition stored inside could also have exploded.
