RAWALPIDNI: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad on Friday approved the one-day physical custody of Pakistan’s Information Minister Raoof Hasan to the Counter-Terrorism Department in a terrorism case.
ATC judge Tahir Abbas Supra announced the reserved verdict after hearing Hasan’s bail plea in the case.
The judge said PTI’s information secretary will be produced before the court tomorrow. He was in court today after two days of physical custody.
Hasana was taken into custody by the CTD on July 31.
Prosecutor Raja Naveed asked the court for another seven-day physical remand of the PTI leader, saying that he has to ascertain the names of the other co-accused.
“The custody of Raoof Hasan is necessary to get to the suspects,” the prosecutor informed the court.
Hasan’s lawyer, Ali Bukhari, told the court that the gunpowder could not be recovered from his client. “The CTD launched a raid and kept Raoof Hasan in custody for two days,” he said.
Bukhari reiterated that nothing was found from the PTI leader. He demanded to submit the complainant’s statement.
The lawyer said that Raoof Hasan is unable to climb stairs and would have died if he did not take his medicine for two days. He then asked the court to release Hasan.
In another hearing, Supra also rejected the party’s International Media Coordinator Ahmad Waqas Janjua’s bail application.
A day earlier, the court had granted Hasan bail in the anti-state propaganda case against bail of Rs 50,000.
PTI’s information secretary and others were taken into custody by the Islamabad police on July 22 and subsequently handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
