As the day of general elections approaches, attacks on candidates and police personnel are also increasing which has spread fear among ordinary citizens including political activists. Which is tantamount to putting more responsibility on the security agencies.
In this regard the police force has already been alerted while the Pakistan Army will also provide security on the occasion of the general elections.
It is worrying that despite such good measures attacks on political workers have increased to prevent it actions must be taken. It should be remembered that yesterday in Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rehan Zaib Khan a young leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, an independent candidate participating in the election from national and provincial seats was killed by unknown persons.
DPO Bajaur Kashif Zulfiqar said that Rehan Zaib was present in Siddiq abad Phatak Bazar Main Chowk in connection with the election campaign when unknown persons opened fire on him. Independent candidate Rehan Zaib Khan was killed by unknown persons.
Station house officer Rasheed Khan confirmed the incident and said that Rehan Zeib Khan was participating in the election from NA 8 and PK 22. Due to the incident the election will be postponed for both the seats the formal declaration of which will be issued by the Returning Officer.
According to Section 73 of the Election Act the election is postponed after the election marks are issued by the death of the candidate. Apart from this an ANP worker was killed by firing in Chaman Balochistan. Levies official said that the accused opened fire on ANP workers in Chaman, as a result of which a worker was killed and one injured.
Meanwhile 5 injured workers were identified as Ghulam ullah, Nasr ullah, Muhammad Javed, Abdul Taif and Ubaid ullah in the hand grenade attack on PPP election office in Quetta in which 5 workers were injured in a hand grenade attack on the election office of PPP in Asif abad Quetta Saryab Road.
The injured workers were identified as Ghulam ullah Nasr ullah Muhammad Javed Abdul Latif and Obaid ullah. Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari condemned the attack. He said that the people of PPP are not afraid of such cowardly attacks and the Election Commission will take measures to protect the election offices taking notice of the bomb attack, the Election Commission has asked for a report from the Chief Secretary and IG Balochistan.
The leadership of the political parties has reacted to the above mentioned attacks and there are various discussions going on about it, which instead of giving more air, attention needs to be paid to the national target of the general elections.
To make general elections peaceful at the national level, it is important that all political parties, caretaker governments and administrations come on the same page to demoralize terrorists and anti-social elements. For this purpose all political parties should cooperate with the police force and security forces.
On this occasion it is necessary to clarify a point that the forces should also adopt the best moral behavior with the people so that the complaints of the people can be reduced. It is hoped that the higher authorities will also have an eye on these recent events happening across the country.
This includes attacks on police personnel. It should be remembered that during the last one week, two police officers were martyred in Peshawar’s Saifan Chowki and Gul Bela areas when the police was observing special event in police line Peshawar for giving tribute to the Martyrs of Police Line mosque.
So it is needed to take steps for recusing the rate of police causalities. Therefore it is necessary to further develop the relations between the public and the police, in which the public representatives can play an important role. These days, if police courts are organized in different areas, this can also raise the awareness of the people to keep an eye on suspicious persons and report them to the police.
