ISLAMABAD: A health expert on Sunday stressed on public awareness on early detection and adopting a healthy lifestyle to control heart diseases as fats, samosas, poor sleep patterns and unhealthy eating habits are mostly responsible for the increasing number of heart diseases among generations.
Senior cardiologist Major General (R) Azhar Mehmood Kiyani in an interview with PTV news channel advised the public that heart diseases can be eliminated by simple lifestyle changes, adding that early screening is very important to stop the progression of the disease and if detected early can easily beat heart disease diseases.
Dr Kiyani said there was an urgent need to take heart disease seriously and work to prevent it, adding that diabetes, hypertension, smoking and inactive lifestyle were the main reasons for heart attacks.
He further said that avoiding consumption of fats, chewing tobacco and cigarettes (Paan and Gutkha) are major factors of heart disease at younger ages in Pakistan.
He said that high blood pressure (hypertension) does not only affect the elderly but also the youth who are increasingly falling prey to this silent menace.
He said that people should adopt a healthy lifestyle and also exercise to protect themselves from heart diseases.
Young people should practice meditation, yoga and mindfulness can be a powerful tool to reduce stress and promote overall well-being, and breakfast is a must for everyone.
