Islamabad: Federal Energy Minister Awais Leghari on Wednesday sought help from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to resolve gate incidents at several grid stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against power cuts in several cities and districts of the province.
In a letter to Energy Minister Mohsin Naqwa, he wrote that the people responsible for this protest are protesting about the involvement of parliamentarians in this raid.
Such incidents occurred in Mardan, Charsadda, Tank, Bannu and Peshawar due to power cuts, the minister wrote in a letter citing the report of the Chief Executive Officer of Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (PESCO).
“Members of the provincial assembly and others issued illegal orders to power plant workers to restore electricity,” he said, adding that the situation threatened the safety of the power plant and workers.
KP Chief Minister Ali Amin sought the help of the Ministry of Home Affairs after Gandapur stormed the Dera Ismail Khan power plant and forced to restore electricity.
The Chief Minister raided the facility after the power outage dispute in the province reached a critical point.
CM Gandapur said, “There will be no load shedding for more than 12 hours in any area. Members of Parliament should visit the stations in their respective areas to ensure that the load shedding schedule is followed” and warned the federal government in this regard.
The Minister of Power, on the other hand, hopes that there are many losses and theft of power in these feeders where the power is forcibly restored.
In his letter, Leghari said the police did not file a case against those responsible.
“This encourages residents of other districts to take the law into their own hands,” he said, urging the interior minister to ensure tighter security on the network.
Leghari’s letter said, “Unaffiliated persons should be prevented from accessing the network. PESCO authorities will punish those who abuse the station.”
The trend of forced entry into power stations in KP started after PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad (SIK) Council member Fazal Elahi armed himself at Rehman Baba substation in Peshawar on Tuesday. restore power in the area after protests erupted over overcrowding.
In May, angry citizens in the capital of KP stormed the Hazar Khawani substation and restored electricity, with constant load-shedding sparking protests amid sweltering weather.
It may be noted that Gandapur held several meetings with Naqvi and Leghari last month regarding the issue and they agreed to resolve the issue positively through dialogue.
