ISLAMABAD – Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub on Tuesday criticized the ruling PML-N and condemned the federal budget for the financial year 2024-25 as economic terrorism against the people of Pakistan.
In an interaction with the media along with his PTI colleague Babar Awan here, Ayub emphasized that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had conceded the role of the IMF in preparing the budget.
He lamented that electricity rates are set to cross Rs 100 per unit in the coming days and the US dollar, which has been artificially pegged at around Rs 275, will climb to Rs 300.
Regarding the cases against the PTI leadership, Ayub said they were politically motivated falsehoods and were only aimed at keeping former prime minister Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi.
Ayub drew parallels with George Orwell’s political satire “Animal Farm” and criticized the current state of Pakistani politics, lambasting the incumbent prime minister and his ruling coalition as ignorant of the challenges faced by ordinary Pakistanis.
Babar Awan expressed similar views and added that those who filed a case against the PTI leadership were liars and dishonest. He claimed that there were attempts to falsely portray stability under the ruling coalition.
Awan argued that the path to a stable Pakistan was only through Imran Khan, equating any attempt to obstruct the PTI founder to destabilizing the country.
The PTI leader also cited the United Nations’ call for open trials in Imran Khan’s cases and claimed that these leaders feared Khan’s public presence, saying, “His mere appearance makes their legs tremble.”
Awan also called for the formation of a high-powered judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9.
