LAHORE: Former striker Azhar Mahmood has emerged as a strong contender for the position of Pakistan men’s national team assistant coach.
He has also performed the same role for the national team in the past.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday issued an advertisement for the post of Assistant Coach, which will support the red-ball and white-ball coaches. Applicants for this role must have at least Level 2 coaching accreditation and three years experience with an international team, franchise, or domestic side.
As per the PCB advertisement, interested candidates can apply till 20 April at 5 pm.

It should be noted that former Pakistan coaching staff, including Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick, who were transferred to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore, left their posts in January this year after their portfolio was reshuffled in November. 2023.
In April 2023, Arthur was appointed as the manager of the Pakistan men’s cricket team, while Bradburn was appointed as the head coach. Former South African cricketer Puttick has been the batting coach since April 2023.
According to PCB, the decision was taken positively by all parties.
