Pakistan all-rounder Babar Azam became the most successful T20I captain in history after thrashing Ireland by seven in the second T20I in Dublin.
The 29-year-old won his 45th cap to overtake Uganda’s Brian Masaba to break the record of 44 goals in 56 games.
Babar Azam: 45 (78 matches)
Brian Masaba: 44 (56)
Afghani soldiers: 42 (52)
Eoin Morgan: 42 (72)
In his first T20I, Babar broke former Australian captain Aaron Finch’s record for most appearances as a captain. He has now led Pakistan in 78 matches, while Finch finished his career with 76 matches.
The performances of Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, and Azam Khan should be noted.
In his post-match speech, Babar revealed that they will be fired before the 18th.
“I give credit to all the winners. After bowling, we decided to chase before 18 overs. We lost a few wickets in the morning but we kept going,” he said.
“It was a good decision (scoring) because it rained and rained a bit. The bowling was good in the second half, but the fact that Ireland bowled the last three overs was everything for them,” he said.
“Fakhar is very experienced and plays with positive attitude. It is good that we got a positive result in this game and we will try to give 100% in the next game. I am very happy to see the Pakistani fans, it is tough – they are packed, enjoy the vibe and the family support us in next game,” he said.
The draw will be held on April 14 at the same venue.
